President Bush has declared this Sunday, "National Sanctity Of Human Life Day." Get out and celebrate it enthusiastically, since it's likely to be the last one for quite some time.
Bush's Sanctity Of Human Life Proclamation
Significantly, signing this proclamation is one of the last official acts George W. Bush will take as our president. Let me quote him:
All human life is a gift from our Creator that is sacred, unique, and worthy of protection. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, our country recognizes that each person, including every person waiting to be born, has a special place and purpose in this world. We also underscore our dedication to heeding this message of conscience by speaking up for the weak and voiceless among us.
The sanctity of life is written in the hearts of all men and women. On this day and throughout the year, we aspire to build a society in which every child is welcome in life and protected in law. We also encourage more of our fellow Americans to join our just and noble cause. History tells us that with a cause rooted in our deepest principles and appealing to the best instincts of our citizens, we will prevail.

If you're looking for a way "to join our just and noble cause," let me remind you of a few upcoming events:
- Saturday, January 17 is our monthly protest at the Aurora Abortion Fortress at 9am.
- This Sunday, January 18 is the Chicago March for Life at Water Tower Place, following the 12:30pm Mass at Holy Name Cathedral.
- The movie "22 Weeks," about a 22 week old unborn baby who survived an abortion attempt-and his mother's efforts to save his life against the obvious desire of clinic staff to cover up the "mistake." The film will premier at the March for Life in DC and will also be shown in Orlando, FL and Wichita, KS. Visit 22WeeksTheMovie.com for more information.
- SpeakOut Illinois will be taking place on Saturday, January 31 at the Westin Hotel in Lombard. Postmark your entry by Saturday for the early registration price of $50; otherwise it's $60 per person. SpeakOut this year is hosting three nationally renowned speakers: Dr. Alveda King, Fr. Tom Euteneuer, and Phyllis Schlafly.
- Finally, many churches will be participating in a postcard campaign to fight the Freedom of Choice Act during the next few weeks. Contact your church's Respect Life Coordinator to see if they're participating.
