Generations for Life would like to introduce Mary Shine, who came to work for us in December as Assistant Director. With Director Annie Scheidler, she has co-written the Generations for Life Curriculum and helped design and implement the Generations for Life program. Mary has begun speaking in high schools on chastity and pro-life.

Mary has always been a pro-lifer. As a young child she joined her parents at local protests and pickets. Mary was active in pro-life clubs at both the Willow's Academy in Des Plaines, IL and the University of Dallas, and attended the March for Life in Washington, DC several times. But it wasn't until she graduated from college that Mary felt called to do more to fight abortion.

"I knew I needed to be doing more, but I didn't know how," Mary says At first she wasn't convinced that she needed to face graphic pictures of abortion or be present at the clinics to address the evil of abortion. Her stance has changed. "I know it's hard to see the pictures or go out to the clinics. It's disturbing. But people need to be disturbed enough to do something."

"God Will Give Me the Words"

Mary is excited about all she has learned in the few short months she has been with Generations for Life and she is eager to share the pro-life message with the younger generation. "I know God will give me the words to speak," she says.

Mary believes that convictions aren't enough. "Now I have the tools to share this message with young people who know so little about abortion and its repercussions. If I had known more in high school, I could have helped more people. Young people rely heavily on their friends and they can have a major impact on the decisions they make. They need to have the right tools to help them make the right decisions." Providing these tools is what Generations for Life pro-life clubs are all about.

Mary finds her new job rewarding. "It brings me joy to leave here every day knowing that I've done something to help fight abortion." Mary is grateful to be working with Annie to cultivate a new generation of pro-lifer leaders who will help restore a culture of life.
