From time to time, Mary and I attend talks by other chastity and pro-life speakers to help us improve our own presentation and see what others in youth outreach are doing. At the end of May we went to hear Yvonne Florczak Seeman of the CareNet Abstinence Program speak to a group of sophomores at Hinsdale Central Public High School. Yvonne made the case for choosing abstinence by sharing the painful story or her own bad choices.

Yvonne was a straight-A student and very involved in theater when she ended up pregnant at age 16 after having sex just one time. Scared and bewildered, she decided to have an abortion. After the abortion, her life began to fall apart. She moved in with her boyfriend and never went back to school. Over the next four years, her boyfriend would lead her into that clinic four more times before finally kicking her out. She had five abortions in all.

Through the grace of God, Yvonne has returned to the loving arms of Jesus, and now shares her story with teens, encouraging them to choose abstinence until marriage. She emphasizes that there is no such thing as "safe sex"; every single time she got pregnant she was using some form of birth control.

Yvonne's witness was powerful and moving. She has a real gift for relating and connecting with teens. None of them could have left that auditorium without thinking long and hard about her message.
